Why I Walk: For My Son - February 23, 2010
My son, Tim Dungan, lives in Atlanta. About four years ago, he was diagnosed as being HIV positive. (I believe this happened in Feb. of that year.) I just had no idea what to do. Then one day I was listening to KCUR on the radio and heard the announcement for the Aids Walk in April, and I knew that I had found something that I could do. I knew the money I raised would not help my son, because he lives in Atlanta; however, I figured the money I raise would help somebodies son in Kansas City, and I know in my heart that there is a father in Atlanta raising money that will help my son. This will be our fourth year with the Aids Walk and my wife, Mary and I have raised about $10,000.00. We are truely blessed!
In 1985, I met David Warner. We worked together on the railroad. I knew David for about three years before he passed away. David was one of the kindest people I have ever met. A true gentle man! This was my first encounter with Aids. I decided no one deserves to die like that. He was such a fine young man. Then at my first Aids Walk, I saw a banner with David Warner's name on it. So, I do this not only for my son, Tim, but for the memory of David Warner.
Thank You,
Michael H Dungan
